"Post-harvest losses continue to be a significant challenge for smallholder farmers, often resulting in wasted resources and financial hardships. The ‘Try Before You Buy’ cooling and cold chain unit offers farmers the opportunity to experience firsthand the benefits of sustainable, energy-efficient cooling technologies before committing to full-scale adoption."

Representatives from the United Kingdom's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA)—Kathryn Muir, Esme Gaussen, and Sabrina Keys— together with Sonja Mettenleiter from the Clean Cooling Network, visited the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS) in Nairobi, Kenya.

"A Game-Changer for Smallholder Farmers"

The delegation, accompanied by the ACTS team led by Dr. Catherine Kilelu, met with H.E. David Kuria, Executive Committee Member for Agriculture, Water, Livestock & Irrigation in Kiambu County, to discuss progress on the ‘Try Before You Buy’ Cooling Hub project.

They then visited the Cooling Hub in Kinale, Lari sub-county, where they toured the cold chain infrastructure, engaged with smallholder farmers from the Lari Horticultural Farmers' Cooperative Society Limited, and visited two member farms.
