Students photographed during the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) workshop, at the ACES Rubirizi campus in Kigali, Rwanda.

The GESI workshop brought together 16 individuals – including food scientists, civil engineers and HVAC technicians - to discuss:

  • The importance of integrating GESI in the cold-chain sectors
  • GESI fundamental concepts such as differences in sex/gender, gender roles and intersectionality
  • The three key domains of the GESI framework: needs, access, and participation, and their ten sub-domains that provide a structured approach to GESI analysis.
  • Safeguarding and SHEA (Sexual Harassment, Exploitation, and Abuse) policies

Mireille Isimbi who took this image, reflects on her role as a female photographer in a male dominated industry: ‘’It has been a long journey to where I am now since we are not given equal opportunities despite our capacities. We are still very underestimated. And in the past that hurt sometimes.”
