Cooling as Critical Infrastructure to Survive and Thrive - with Dr Tim Fox banner image

Cooling as Critical Infrastructure to Survive and Thrive - with Dr Tim Fox

The recent increase in severe and frequent heatwaves due to rising temperatures will have significant and disastrous consequences, impacting all liveable aspects of life on Earth. A viable solution needs to address our survival and the quality of every aspect of our local and global environment.

We invite interested parties to join us for a supplier event webinar, where we will outline our plans and discuss innovative solutions that meet both climate and performance requirements.

Cold-chain through the lens of GESI - with Asha Singh banner image

Cold-chain through the lens of GESI - with Asha Singh

Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) in the cold-chain space is not only a pressing moral and social issue; it is critical for driving innovation, boosting efficiency, increasing resilience, and ensuring that no one is left behind.

Conducive Policy Environments For Cold-Chains banner image

Conducive Policy Environments For Cold-Chains

Governmental policy plays a critical role in the development of clean cold-chains. For example, the introduction of food safety standards will require temperature control and monitoring in animal-based value chains, making robust cold-chain infrastructure essential.

Cold-Chain Design Model For Developing Markets banner image

Cold-Chain Design Model For Developing Markets

Central to our work, the Centre for Sustainable Road Freight (CSRF) at Heriot-Watt University has built a first-of-a-kind virtual model which can be populated with a country's data to understand and develop optimised end-to-end multi-modal integrated cold-chain to meet a government's targets.

Evaluating the Sustainability of a Clean Cold Network banner image

Evaluating the Sustainability of a Clean Cold Network

The world is facing existential challenges arising from systemic unsustainability and a lack of resilience in critical socio-ecological and economic systems. There are no robust, comprehensive evaluation tools that integrate all the material elements and multiple perspectives of sustainability.

The Rise of Electric Vehicles and implications for the Cold Chain

Electric vehicles will play a crucial role in decarbonising global supply chains. Flexible Power Systems (FPS) specialises in providing software that helps businesses manage their electric vehicles and chargers and optimise their electric fleet operations.

Viable Cold-Chain Business Models banner image

Viable Cold-Chain Business Models

In today’s economy, agricultural cold-chains are predominantly led by the private sector. This webinar will explore the prerequisites for building a strong business case for cold-chains, presenting an overview of various existing business models and their functionalities.

Cold Chain Financing Mechanisms banner image

Cold Chain Financing Mechanisms

Scaling clean cold-chains requires significant financial investment. Finance may come from both public and private institutions, each with unique requirements and characteristics. This webinar will provide an overview of different financing mechanisms available for cold-chains.

Living in a +50°C World - The System Roadmap

Despite a clear, indisputable need, clean cooling and cold-chain solutions are not being implemented at the required scale on-the-ground in the Global South. Why is that? What are the key issues?  And, most importantly, what can practically be done to address them?

Mapping the food system: Identifying critical loss points and enhancing efficiency banner image

Mapping the food system: Identifying critical loss points and enhancing efficiency

In Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs), food security is often jeopardised by inefficiencies and critical loss points across the food supply chain. Mapping these points within the food system allows for precise, targeted interventions that can reduce losses, optimise productivity, and support local...

Pathways to Near-Zero Emission Cooling banner image

Pathways to Near-Zero Emission Cooling

It is expected that the global stock of cooling equipment could triple by 2050, driven by growing wealth, increasing population and the impact of climate change.  This massive growth needs to be accompanied by a substantial cut in greenhouse gas emissions if the world is to meet Paris Agreement targets.

Minimizing food loss through system of systems approach: resilient comprehensive cold-chains in India

Between 8 to 20% of horticulture produce (equivalent to 156 million USD) is lost in Haryana. This is due to the lack of standard guidelines and protocols, low awareness among stakeholders and farmer communities, absence of financially viable business models and insufficient market connectivity.

CCN communities

Join The Clean Cooling Community of Practice for Mapping the food system - Towards efficient post-harvest management.

It explores the fresh produce supply chain, identifying the most critical loss points, and aims to develop strategic interventions to mitigate these inefficiencies.

The CoP is led by Dr. Carol Verheecke-Vaessen and Dr. Tobi Fadiji at Cranfield University.
