Lecturer (Logistics)

Working with our academic partners, the African Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Cooling and Cold-chain (ACES), under the Clean Cooling Network (CCN), is building out its portfolio of in-person, hybrid, and online courses to expand access to hands-on, modular, and locally relevant training. It is aiming to create a vertical learning experience as well as a learning journey for its students to support employability. We are also working on accreditation to offer both diploma and degree courses.

To support curriculum delivery and applied learning, the Lecturer in Logistics will support the design and facilitation of training modules and applied projects focusing on sustainable and efficient cold-chain logistics for agri-food systems and related sectors. Working closely with trainers, programme coordinators, and innovation teams, the role holder will be responsible for enabling trainees to develop practical logistics solutions that enhance supply chain efficiency, reduce losses, and improve access to markets. The selected candidate will also produce materials and innovative teaching methods adapted to the diverse levels of experience of the students in each course.

Position Overview

The role spans course delivery, learner engagement, curriculum co-design (up to Masters) , and academic support across ACES’s training programmes, with an emphasis on applied and context-specific logistics and supply chain development.

The successful candidate is likely to have a strong background in logistics and supply chain management, preferably with experience in cold-chain operations and last-mile delivery systems.
They will have excellent communication skills, a strong commitment to sustainable logistics, and a passion for helping learners understand and improve the movement of goods and services within food and health-related cold chains.

In addition to delivering lectures and facilitating learning sessions, they will also be responsible for student assessment, project supervision, and contributions to curriculum and content development.

Duties & Responsibilities

Working with the subject matter experts and other stakeholders

  • Support the development and delivery of ACES’s curriculum on logistics and supply chain management for the cold chain. It will be essential to have the initiative to also identify areas for development.

  • Facilitate training sessions, workshops, and group projects that promote systems thinking and innovation in logistics.
  • Guide learners in mapping, analysing, and improving logistics systems in cold-chain and agri-food sectors.
  • Design and implement learning activities that connect logistics theory to real-world distribution, storage, and transportation challenges.
  • Support the integration of sustainability, climate resilience, and GESI dimensions into logistics learning.
  • Monitor learner progress and provide academic supervision, guidance, and mentorship throughout their applied logistics projects.
  • Coordinate with programme teams on learner assessment, curriculum reviews, and content development.
Skills & Experience

They will need to show qualifications and proven experience in

Logistics

  • Logistics and supply chain management in agriculture, health, or cooling-related sectors
  • Cold-chain logistics, last-mile delivery, or infrastructure planning
  • The logistics software ecosystem, incorporating, as a minimum, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Transport Management Systems (TMS), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
  • Telematics and more broadly IoT in tracking and supply chain integrity.
  • Understanding of sustainability, circular supply chains.

Teaching

  • Teaching or training in applied logistics, transport, or warehousing subjects
  • Working with adult learners with a diverse range of skills and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Using Moodle (or equivalent LMS) and delivering lectures online.

Qualifications may include: 

Degree/Postgraduate degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transport Economics, Industrial Engineering, or related field
